Illustration for Telecommunications Act 2001

The government has a law called the Telecommunications Act 2001 that talks about telecommunications service obligations. You can think of a TSO instrument like a special agreement that says how much the Crown will pay for these services each year. The agreement can specify the total amount payable by the Crown, which is called the specified amount. The specified amount can be a fixed amount of money, a capped amount of money, an amount of money that changes with inflation, or a formula to calculate the amount. It can also be a combination of these options, and you can find more information about how this law was amended by the Telecommunications (TSO, Broadband, and Other Matters) Amendment Act 2011 on the government's website.
