You need to know what happens when a notice is given under certain sections of the Maritime Transport Act 1994, like sections 227, 228, 229, 230, and 299. If a regional council gets a notice, it must tell the Director right away about what it has been told. The Environmental Protection Authority must also tell the Director without delay about what it has been notified of. You are involved in this process if you are the Director, because you must inform a regional council or the Environmental Protection Authority about the matters you have been told, depending on where they happened. The Director tells a regional council about matters that have occurred or may occur in the council's region. The Director tells the Environmental Protection Authority about matters that have occurred or may occur in New Zealand continental waters.
