Maritime Transport Act 1994

Offences in relation to maritime activity - Safety offences

65: Dangerous activity involving ships or maritime products

You could also call this:

"Rules to keep people safe from dangerous things done with ships or boat equipment"

If you operate, maintain, or service a ship or maritime product in a way that puts others at risk, you can get in trouble. You can also get in trouble if you do something else with a ship or maritime product that causes unnecessary danger to people or property. It does not matter if someone actually gets hurt or if something gets damaged.

If you cause or let someone else operate, maintain, or service a ship or maritime product in a way that puts others at risk, you can get in trouble too. This also applies if you cause or let someone else do something else with a ship or maritime product that causes unnecessary danger to people or property.

If you break these rules, you can face penalties, such as imprisonment or a fine, depending on whether you are an individual or a company. You may also have to pay an additional penalty under section 409.
