The Director can ask you to have inspections and audits done if you have a maritime document or work with ships. The Director does this to keep people safe at sea. You might be asked to give the Director information or show them that you know what to do in certain situations. The Director can also do inspections and audits themselves to check that everything is safe. They can ask you for information and to show them that you and your crew know what to do on the ship. They can also ask you to show that you can do your job properly and keep the ship safe. The Director is checking to see if you are following the rules in Parts 1 to 15 of the law. They want to make sure that you are keeping people safe at sea. The Director has the power to do this to protect maritime safety and the health and safety of seafarers.
