If you find a wreck in New Zealand, you must tell the Director as soon as possible. You must notify the Director that you have found the wreck. If you are not the owner, you must give the wreck to the Police or let them take it. If you do not follow these rules, you can get in trouble. You might have to pay a fine or give up any claim to the wreck. You could also have to pay the owner of the wreck double its value. The Director can share any information they get with other people or groups they think need to know. This helps make sure everyone knows what is happening with the wreck.
