You need to understand what some words mean in this part of the law. The word 'owner' refers to someone who has a ship or a part of it, and also includes people responsible for the ship's mistakes. The owner can also be someone who is in charge of the ship's navigation and management. You should know that 'salvage services' has the same meaning as in section 84. The word 'ship' refers to any type of vessel used for navigation, including barges and vessels used by the New Zealand Defence Force. It also includes structures that are being built to be used as ships. When the law talks about damage or loss caused by a ship's fault, it also includes expenses like salvage costs that can be recovered as damages.
