Maritime Transport Act 1994

Local regulation of maritime activity - Navigation bylaws

33O: Infringement offences relating to navigation bylaws

You could also call this:

"Breaking navigation rules can lead to a fine of up to $1,000"

The Governor-General can make rules about navigation bylaws. You might break a bylaw and get an infringement offence. The rules say which bylaws are infringement offences. The Governor-General can also set a fine, up to $1,000, for breaking a bylaw. They can decide what an infringement notice looks like. If you are alleged to have broken a bylaw, you might go to court under the Summary Proceedings Act 1957 or get an infringement notice. These rules are secondary legislation, which means they have to follow certain publication rules, as explained in Part 3 of the Legislation Act 2019.
