The Director can ask a regional council to add or remove parts of their marine oil spill plan. You need to know the Director does this to help the council respond well to an oil spill in their area. The council can also make changes to their plan if the Director agrees in writing. The Director's opinion is important in deciding what changes are needed. You can see how the regional council and the Director work together to keep the plan up to date. This helps keep New Zealand's marine environment safe from oil spills. A regional council can amend its plan at any time as long as the Director approves it. This means the council and the Director work together to make sure the plan is effective. The plan is crucial in responding to marine oil spills in the region.
