Maritime Transport Act 1994

Plans and responses to protect marine environment from marine oil spills - Miscellaneous provisions relating to responses to marine oil spills

321: Purchases by Authority to prepare for and implement responses to marine oil spills

You could also call this:

"Authority can buy things to help with oil spills in New Zealand waters"

The Authority can buy things it needs to get ready for or deal with oil spills in New Zealand waters. You can think of the Authority like a team that helps keep our oceans safe. The Authority can buy things to help itself or regional councils respond to oil spills, as outlined in the New Zealand marine oil spill response strategy.

The Authority can get its money back from the New Zealand Oil Pollution Fund for things it buys to deal with oil spills. This only happens if the Minister has already agreed to the spending plan, as stated in section 332. The Minister's agreement is important for the Authority to get reimbursed.
