Maritime Transport Act 1994

Local regulation of maritime activity - Enforcement

33G: Enforcement officers, Police, and authorised regional council officials

You could also call this:

"People who help keep you safe on the water, like enforcement officers and police"

To keep you and others safe on the water, regional councils can appoint special people called enforcement officers. You can think of enforcement officers like helpers who make sure everyone follows the rules. The regional council can also appoint honorary enforcement officers who help with specific tasks. When it comes to keeping you safe, enforcement officers and police can use certain powers, like those listed in section 33F(1)(a), (b), (g), (h), and (i). Enforcement officers and police can also use other powers, like those in section 33F(1)(c), if the regional council says they can. Honorary enforcement officers and other authorised people can use some of these powers too, such as those in section 33F(1)(g) and (h) or section 33F(1)(g), (h), and (i).
