Maritime Transport Act 1994

General provisions relating to shipping - Maritime Registry

189: Maritime Registry

You could also call this:

"A Maritime Registry: a database storing important maritime information and documents for public access"

The Authority will set up a Maritime Registry. You can think of it like a big database that stores important information. This information includes documents like maritime documents and marine protection documents issued by the Director, as well as regulations and rules made under this Act, and items incorporated by reference into rules under section 452.

The Registry will also keep records of accidents, incidents, and mishaps reported under section 31, and details about people who have applied for or been granted maritime documents or marine protection documents. It will store a list of conventions and the countries that are part of them, and the current service charter.

The Authority will make the documents at the Registry available for you to look at for free, following the rules of the Official Information Act 1982. However, this is subject to the Privacy Act 2020, which means some information might be private and not available to the public.
