Illustration for Maritime Transport Act 1994

The Director can ask you to be investigated if you hold a maritime document. The Director must have good reasons to think an investigation is needed for maritime safety. You might be investigated if you have not followed the conditions of your maritime document or if you are not doing your job properly. The Director must finish the investigation as soon as possible and tell you when it will start. You will be told the results of the investigation in writing, including any recommendations and why they were made. You can find more information about this in the Maritime Transport Act. The Director has to follow these rules if they ask you to be investigated. This helps keep everyone safe at sea. You have the right to know what is happening during the investigation.
