Maritime Transport Act 1994

Civil liability for pollution of marine environment - Mandatory insurance for certain ships and offshore installations

363A: Certain ships to have bunker oil certificates of insurance

You could also call this:

"Big ships in New Zealand waters must have insurance certificates to cover damage from oil spills."

If you own a big ship that comes into a New Zealand port or sails in New Zealand waters, you need to follow some rules. Your ship must be 1 000 gross tonnage or more to apply. You must have a special certificate on your ship that shows you have insurance to cover any damage your ship might cause. This certificate must be approved by the Director under section 270 or 271, and it must show that you have insurance to cover your liability under the Bunker Oil Convention.
