Illustration for Maritime Transport Act 1994

When you are dealing with a marine oil spill, there are rules about what the on-scene commander can do. The on-scene commander cannot use their powers in a way that conflicts with someone using powers under the Civil Defence Emergency Management Act 2002, or the National Recovery Manager, or a constable using powers under the International Terrorism (Emergency Powers) Act 1987. The on-scene commander also cannot use their powers in a way that is inconsistent with the Director or Minister using powers under Part 20.
