You have roles and responsibilities under the Food Act 2014 if you are a territorial authority. A territorial authority has functions, duties, and powers given to it under this Act. You must do what the Act says.

You help keep food safe by doing things like giving advice and information about food safety. You also help the chief executive do their job under this Act. You contribute to keeping food safe by implementing risk-based measures.

You register food businesses and make sure they follow the rules in your district. You enforce the rules and carry out other regulatory responsibilities under this Act. You can also be a recognised agency and do other related tasks.
