An infringement notice is a special document that tells you about an offence you are alleged to have committed. It must be in a certain form, which is prescribed under section 391. This form must have certain details, including what the alleged offence is, when and where it happened, and how much you have to pay.

The notice must also tell you how long you have to pay the fee, where to pay it, and that you have the right to ask for a hearing or to cancel the notice. You will also be told what will happen if you do not pay the fee or ask for a hearing or cancellation.

The notice will include a summary of the provisions of section 21(10) of the Summary Proceedings Act 1957, which explains more about your rights and what you can do.
