Illustration for Food Act 2014

When you look at the Food Act 2014, you will see a term called "authorised transition period". This term refers to a time frame during which food businesses can choose to keep following the old food rules instead of the new ones. By the end of this time frame, they must be following the new rules that apply to them. You need to know when this time frame starts and ends to understand how it works. The start date is the relevant appointed date.

The end date of this time frame is specified in regulations made under section 418(1)(a). This end date must be between the relevant appointed date and the end of the introductory period of the Food Act 2014. This means food businesses have a certain amount of time to switch to the new rules before they are required to do so.
