Sale and Supply of Alcohol Act 2012

Sale and supply of alcohol generally - Licensing generally, requirements on licensees, and conditions - Miscellaneous licensing provisions

73: Surrender of licence or manager's certificate

You could also call this:

"What happens when you give up your alcohol licence or manager's certificate"

If you have a licence or manager's certificate, you can give it up at any time by telling the secretary of the licensing committee and sending it to them. You do this by notifying the secretary of its surrender and sending the licence or certificate to the secretary. The licence or certificate stops being valid from the day the secretary gets it.

The secretary must then tell the licensing authority that you gave up your licence or certificate and record the day they were told and the day they got it. The secretary has to do a few things when you surrender your licence or certificate. They have to notify the licensing authority and record some dates.

If you give up your licence or certificate, you might get some of your money back. This is because you are entitled to a proportionate refund of any fee you paid. You get a refund by working out what part of the fee was for the time the licence or certificate was valid.

Giving up your licence or certificate does not mean you do not have to do things you were supposed to do before you gave it up. You still have to do what the law says you must do, even if you do not have a licence or certificate anymore. You are also still responsible for anything you did or did not do before you gave up your licence or certificate.
