Sale and Supply of Alcohol Act 2012

Sale and supply of alcohol generally - Licensing bodies - Alcohol Regulatory and Licensing Authority

175: Licensing authority may refer matters to licensing committees

You could also call this:

"The boss of alcohol licensing can ask a team to investigate and report back to help make decisions."

The licensing authority can ask a licensing committee to look into something and report back to them. You can think of the licensing authority like a boss, and the licensing committee like a team that helps the boss make decisions. The licensing committee will send the licensing authority any important information they found out, like what people said during the inquiry.

When the licensing committee reports back, they might also make some suggestions about what they think should happen. The licensing authority will then look at the report and decide what to do next. They can make a decision based on what the licensing committee found out, or they can hear more from people before making a decision.

The licensing authority has the power to make decisions on its own, even if the licensing committee did the investigation. If you want to learn more about how this works, you can look at s 95 for more information.
