Sale and Supply of Alcohol Act 2012

Sale and supply of alcohol generally - Offences and closure of premises - Offences relating to minors and people under purchase age

242: Employment of minors

You could also call this:

“No one under 18 can work where alcohol is sold, unless they're doing certain jobs.”

If you are a licensee of a place that sells alcohol, you must not employ someone under 18 in an area where alcohol is being sold. This is against the law. You can be fined up to $2,000 if you break this rule.

If you employ someone under 18 to do certain jobs, like preparing or serving a meal, or cleaning and maintaining the area, then you are not breaking the law. You are also allowed to employ someone under 18 to restock the area, remove or replace equipment, do stocktaking, or check or remove cash.

You can find more information about this law by looking at s 161.
