Sale and Supply of Alcohol Act 2012

Sale and supply of alcohol generally - Offences and closure of premises - Offences relating to minors and people under purchase age

244: Minors in restricted areas or supervised areas

You could also call this:

"Rules for under 18s in areas where alcohol is sold"

If you are a minor and you are found in a restricted area on licensed premises, you commit an offence. You also commit an offence if you are found in a supervised area on licensed premises and you are not with a parent or guardian. You can be fined up to $1,000 if you commit one of these offences.

Some people are allowed in restricted or supervised areas without committing an offence, like employees who need to clean or restock the area. You are also allowed in these areas if you are preparing or serving a meal, or if a police officer asks you to be there. There are some other exceptions, like if you are in a supervised area to sell or supply alcohol.

If you break the rules, you can be fined, but there are some exceptions that might apply to you, as outlined in the Sale and Supply of Alcohol Act 2012, which you can compare to s 163.
