Sale and Supply of Alcohol Act 2012

Sale and supply of alcohol generally - Management of licensed premises

214: Manager to be on duty at all times and responsible for compliance

You could also call this:

“A manager must always be at the premises when alcohol is being sold to ensure the rules are followed.”

When alcohol is being sold or supplied to the public on licensed premises, a manager must be on duty at all times, except as provided in section 215. You are responsible for making sure the premises follow the rules of the Sale and Supply of Alcohol Act and the conditions of the licence. The manager’s name must be displayed inside the premises so people can easily see it.

The manager is in charge of how the premises are run, with the goal of reducing harm caused by alcohol. The person who owns the licence must help the manager do their job by taking reasonable steps. This means they must make it possible for the manager to comply with the rules.

The manager’s name must be easy to read and see, and the person whose name is displayed is considered the manager at that time.
