Sale and Supply of Alcohol Act 2012

Sale and supply of alcohol generally - Local alcohol policies

75: Territorial authorities may have local alcohol policies

You could also call this:

"Councils can create rules about alcohol in their area"

You can have a local alcohol policy in your area. This policy is about the sale, supply, or consumption of alcohol in your district. It can cover one, two, or all of these things.

You can make a policy that applies differently to different parts of your district. It can also apply to only some parts of your district, not all of it. A policy can even have different rules for different types of licensed premises.

If you want a local alcohol policy, it must be created and approved in a specific way. This is set out in the Sale and Supply of Alcohol Act 2012. You do not have to have a local alcohol policy if you do not want one.
