Sale and supply of alcohol generally - Offences and closure of premises - Infringement offences

260: Infringement offences

You could also call this:

“Breaking alcohol rules can lead to fines, known as infringement offences”

If you break certain rules about selling and supplying alcohol, you might commit what is called an infringement offence. An infringement offence is when you do something wrong, like breaking rules in sections 243, 244, 245, 250, 251, 254, 257, or 259. You can also commit an infringement offence if you break a specific rule in section 258(1)(b) related to section 214(3).

If you commit an infringement offence, you might have to pay a fee, which is called an infringement fee. The infringement fee is an amount of money, not more than $1,000, that you have to pay because you broke the rules.

Some infringement offences are called specified infringement offences, which include breaking rules in sections 250, 254, or 259, or breaking a specific rule in section 258(1)(b) related to section 214(3).
