or “You can't ask for or decide on fish farming in the sea until there's a special area set aside for it in the local plan.”

You could also call this:

“This part explains the meanings of important words used in rules about using shared sea and beach areas.”

In this part of the law, you’ll find some important words and what they mean. These definitions help you understand the rules about using common marine and coastal areas.

When you see the word “authorisation,” it means you have the right to ask for permission to use a space in a common marine and coastal area.

The “Minister” refers to the Minister of Conservation. This is the person in charge of looking after nature and wildlife.

“Public notice” means the same thing as it does in section 2AB of this law. It’s a way of telling everyone about something important.

A “tender” is any way of asking people to make offers for something. It could be public, where anyone can make an offer, or it might be done in other ways.

“Trustee” has the same meaning as in section 4 of the Maori Commercial Aquaculture Claims Settlement Act 2004. This is about people who look after things for others.

These meanings are used in this part of the law unless the text around them shows they should mean something different.
