Resource Management Act 1991

Transitional provisions - Miscellaneous provisions

432: Obligation to prepare regional policy statements and coastal plans within 2 years

You could also call this:

“Councils must create plans for their region within 2 years, and tell the public about them.”

If you are a regional council, you must prepare a regional policy statement for your area within 2 years of this law starting. You have to let the public know about your proposed statement. You also have to publicly notify a proposed regional coastal plan or plans for your region by 1 July 1994. If you do what you are supposed to do, you will not be in breach of section 60 or section 64 while you are working on your policy statement or plan. This means you have some time to get your policy statement or plan in place before you can be held responsible for not following these rules.
