Resource Management Act 1991

Transitional provisions - Miscellaneous provisions

432: Obligation to prepare regional policy statements and coastal plans within 2 years

You could also call this:

“Regional councils must create and share plans for their area's resources within a set time.”

If you are a regional council, you need to do two important things within a specific time frame. First, within two years after this law starts, you must tell everyone about a proposed regional policy statement for your area. This is a document that explains how you plan to manage the environment in your region.

Second, by 1 July 1994, you must let everyone know about a proposed regional coastal plan (or plans) for your area. This plan shows how you will look after the coastal areas in your region.

If you do the first task on time, you won’t be breaking the rules in section 60 or section 64 during the time between when this law starts and when your policy statement or plan becomes official.
