Resource Management Act 1991

Functions, powers, and duties of central and local government - Functions, powers, and duties of Ministers

28A: Regional council must supply information to Minister of Conservation

You could also call this:

"Regional councils must give the Minister of Conservation information when asked"

The Minister of Conservation can ask a regional council to give them information about how the council is monitoring certain things in their area. You might be wondering what a protected customary right is - it's a special right that is protected by law. The Minister can ask for information about how these rights are being exercised in the council's region.

The Minister must ask for the information in a written notice that includes the date. The regional council must then give the Minister the information within 20 working days of the notice, or within a longer time frame that the Minister sets.

The council cannot charge a fee for giving the Minister this information, and they must provide it to the Minister of Conservation as requested.
