Illustration for Resource Management Act 1991

When a new part of the Resource Management Act starts, a local authority must tell the public about the status of any proposed planning instrument within 90 working days. You will know what is happening with these instruments because the local authority must give public notice. The notice must include information such as which proposed planning instruments have been withdrawn, which will continue under an automatic exemption, and the result of any exemption applications made under section 80V.

The local authority must also include in the notice any directions given by the Minister under section 80T. You can find out if the Minister has granted an exemption under section 80V and if the process for a proposed planning instrument will continue. The notice will tell you what is happening with each proposed planning instrument.
