“This part explains important words used when talking about permits for activities in the sea and on the coast.”

In this part of the law, there are some important words you need to understand:

An “extant coastal permit” is a special permission for activities in the sea. It’s a permit that’s still valid when this part of the law starts working, but it will end before 31 December 2050. It’s specifically for aquaculture, which means farming in the sea.

When you see “extended permit review of conditions” or just “review”, it means checking the rules of the permit. This checking is done using the rules in subpart 1B.

A “replacement permit” is a new permit that takes the place of an old one. It starts after this part of the law begins working, but the person who has it isn’t using it yet.

These definitions help you understand the rest of this part of the law. If you see these words used later, you’ll know exactly what they mean.
