165ZFHI: Power to undertake review
or “The law allows authorities to check and change the rules for some sea farming permits.”

You could also call this:

“The review aims to improve how we look after the sea and coast while letting fish farms keep working.”

When you review a marine farm, you want to make sure it’s using the sea and land resources in a sustainable way. This means you’re trying to manage these resources better for the long term. However, you need to do this review in a way that follows two important rules:

  1. The review must agree with Part 2 of the Resource Management Act. This part of the law talks about how to use resources wisely.

  2. The review must not stop the person who has permission to run the marine farm from doing their aquaculture work. This means you can’t make changes that would prevent them from farming in the sea.

The main goal is to find ways to improve how the marine farm operates without causing problems for the farmer or going against the basic principles of resource management.

Review of conditions applying to extended coastal permits

165ZFHJPurpose of review

  1. The purpose of undertaking a review is to better promote the sustainable management of the natural and physical resources associated with the marine farm, as long as the review is undertaken in a way that—

  2. is consistent with Part 2; and
    1. does not prevent the permit holder from carrying out the aquaculture activity to which the coastal permit relates.
