“How members of special groups investigating environmental issues get paid for their work and travel”

When someone is part of a board of inquiry set up under section 149J, they can get paid for their work. This is covered by a law called the Fees and Travelling Allowances Act 1951.

The board of inquiry is treated as a special group under this law. If the Minister says it’s okay, a board member can get money for their work. This money comes from what the government has set aside for this purpose.

The payment can include fees, salary, or allowances. Board members can also get money for their travel expenses when they’re doing work for the board.

All of these payments follow the rules set out in the Fees and Travelling Allowances Act.
