Resource Management Act 1991

Water conservation orders

217: Effect of water conservation order

You could also call this:

"What happens to water use when a water conservation order is made"

If a water conservation order is made, it does not affect any resource consent you were granted before the order was made. You can still use the water as you were allowed to before. When a water conservation order is in place, the consent authority must consider it when deciding whether to grant new permits. The authority will not grant a permit if it would go against the order, and they will impose conditions on any new permits to make sure the order is followed.
