New Zealand law explained for everyone

21: Avoiding unreasonable delay
or “Everyone must do their jobs quickly and not waste time when following the rules in this law.”

You could also call this:

“You must tell the officer who you are and who you're acting for if they think you've broken the rules.”

When an enforcement officer thinks you might be breaking or have broken rules in this part of the law, they can ask you for some information. If you’re a person, they can ask for your full name, address, and when you were born. If you’re not a person (like a company), they can ask for the full name and address.

The officer can also ask you for information about someone else if you’re breaking the rules for them. If that other person is a real person, the officer can ask for their full name, address, and birth date. If it’s not a real person (like a company again), the officer can ask for its full name and address.

You need to give this information when the officer asks for it. This helps them do their job and make sure everyone follows the rules.
