“Recognising and considering Māori rights and values when making decisions about New Zealand's natural resources”
When you use, develop, or protect natural and physical resources, you need to think about the principles of the Treaty of Waitangi (Te Tiriti o Waitangi). This applies to everyone who has a job or makes decisions under this law. The Treaty of Waitangi is an important agreement between Māori and the New Zealand government. You can learn more about the Treaty here.
“This law tells people in charge to think about important things like caring for nature, using resources wisely, and keeping the environment healthy when making decisions.”
