Resource Management Act 1991

Occupation of common marine and coastal area - Duration of coastal permits for marine farms extended

165ZFHC: Extension of coastal permits for marine farms

You could also call this:

“Coastal permits for marine farms can be extended for up to 20 years or until the end of 2050, whichever comes first.”

This law is about extending the time that coastal permits for marine farms can last. If you have a coastal permit for a marine farm, it will now last for either 20 more years from when it was supposed to end, or until 31 December 2050, whichever comes first. The law says that no permit can be extended past 31 December 2050.

The rules that apply to your coastal permit will stay the same when it’s extended, except in two cases. First, if a rule needs to change because the permit lasts longer. Second, if someone was arguing about your permit in court when this law started, then the rules will be what the court decides in the end.

This law doesn’t stop subpart 1B from being used to look at and change the rules of your extended permit if needed.

Remember, this is just a simple explanation of the law. If you need to know exactly how it applies to you, you should ask a grown-up or a lawyer for help.
