57: Preparation of New Zealand coastal policy statements

You could also call this:

"Creating a plan to protect New Zealand's coastlines"

The Minister of Conservation must prepare a New Zealand coastal policy statement. They do this by following a process outlined in section 46A. You can think of this process like a set of steps to make sure the policy statement is done correctly.

The Minister of Conservation is in charge of making sure there is at least one New Zealand coastal policy statement. Other parts of the law, like sections 53, 54, and 55, also apply to this policy statement. These sections help explain how the policy statement works.

If you want to know the status of a New Zealand coastal policy statement under the Legislation Act 2019, you can look at section 52(4). You can also look at section 53(3) to see how changes to the policy statement work.
