Resource Management Act 1991

Standards, policy statements, and plans - Local authority policy statements and plans - Regional plans

64: Preparation and change of regional coastal plans

You could also call this:

“How to make and update plans to protect New Zealand's coastal areas”

For the coastal area of a region, you must have one or more regional coastal plans. These plans are prepared in a specific way, which is set out in Schedule 1. You can include a regional coastal plan as part of a regional plan if it helps manage the coastal area and environment better. When a regional coastal plan is part of a regional plan, the Minister of Conservation only approves the part about the coastal marine area.

A regional coastal plan can be changed, and the way to do this is also set out in Schedule 1. You follow the same process to change a regional coastal plan as you do to prepare one. This helps keep the plans up to date and working well for the coastal area.
