2: Interpretation
or “ This section explains what different words and phrases mean in this law. It defines important terms to help people understand the rules and requirements correctly. ”

You could also call this:

“This section explains words used when telling people about requests for permission to use resources or make changes to protected areas.”

This part of the law explains some important words used in the Resource Management Act 1991. These words are only used when talking about applications for resource consent or other related matters.

When you see the term “affected customary marine title group”, you can find out what it means by looking at section 95G.

An “affected person” is someone who is considered affected by an application or matter, as described in section 95E or 149ZCF.

“Affected protected customary rights group” is explained in section 95F.

“Limited notification” means telling only the affected people about an application or matter within a certain time.

“Notification” can mean either telling everyone (public notification) or just telling the affected people (limited notification) about an application or matter.

“Public notification” involves three steps: 1) giving notice as described in section 2AB, 2) doing this within a specific time, and 3) telling every person the law says must be told.
