26: Minister may make grants and loans
or “The Minister can give money or lend money to help people do good things for the environment.”

You could also call this:

“The person in charge of the environment can ask local groups for information about how they use their powers.”

The Minister for the Environment can ask certain groups for information. These groups include local authorities, network utility operators approved as requiring authorities, and bodies corporate approved as heritage protection authorities.

The Minister can ask for information that these groups have about how they use their powers and do their jobs under the Resource Management Act. The Minister can only ask for information that they reasonably need.

When the Minister wants this information, they must send a written notice with a date on it. The groups then have to give the Minister the information within 20 working days, or longer if the Minister allows. The groups can’t charge the Minister for giving this information.

This rule helps the Minister get important information about how the Resource Management Act is being used by different groups.
