165ZDA: Minister of Aquaculture may suspend applications to occupy common marine and coastal area for purposes of aquaculture activities on own initiative
or “The person in charge of fish farms can stop people from asking to use the sea for a while if there are problems or too many people want to use it.”

You could also call this:

“When the Minister stops new fish farming applications, you can't apply for a permit in that area until the stop ends.”

When the Minister of Aquaculture issues a notice in the Gazette about a space in the sea, you can’t ask for permission to use that space for fish farming or other sea farming activities. This rule starts when the notice is published and ends when the notice expires.

This rule and section 165ZDA don’t change anything about:

  1. Requests that the regional council received before the Minister’s notice was published.
  2. Requests covered by section 165ZH.
  3. Requests made with special permission.

or “The Minister can extend the pause on new fish farming requests if there are still big challenges or worries about sea life health.”
