88G: Exclusion of period when processing of non-notified application suspended
or “When an application is put on hold, the waiting time doesn't count towards the deadline.”

You could also call this:

“Stopping the clock when you don't pay fees for your building permission request”

If you want to apply for a resource consent, you need to know about some rules for paying charges. When you send your application to the consent authority, they might ask you to pay a charge. This charge could be due when you submit your application or when the authority tells people about your application.

If you don’t pay the charge when it’s due, the consent authority can pause the clock on their decision-making time. They can stop counting the days from when you were supposed to pay until the day you actually pay. This means they might take longer to make a decision on your application.

The consent authority uses section 95 to decide how long they have to make decisions. But if you’re late with your payment, they can add extra time to their deadline. This helps them manage applications fairly when people don’t pay on time.

Remember, it’s important to pay any charges on time to keep your application moving forward quickly. If you’re not sure about when to pay or how much, you can always ask the consent authority for help.
