Standards, policy statements, and plans - National direction - National planning standards

58E: Approval of national planning standard

You could also call this:

“The Minister's Approval of National Planning Rules”

Before the Minister approves a national planning standard, you need to know they must think about the report and recommendations made under section 58D(3)(d)(ii). The Minister can approve a national planning standard after making changes or withdraw part of it and tell the public why. The Minister must give public notice of the withdrawal, including the reasons for it.

The Minister can also approve a national planning standard with changes or withdraw all or part of a draft national planning standard. National planning standards are secondary legislation, which means they have to follow certain rules for publication, as outlined in Part 3 of the Legislation Act 2019.

You should understand that national planning standards have to be published in a certain way, and the Minister has to follow these rules when approving or withdrawing them.
