Social Security Act 2018

Assistance - Introduction

17: Rates

You could also call this:

“How much money you can get from the government”

The government gives you help under this part of the law. The amount of help you get is written down in Schedule 4. This is true for most types of help, but not for everything.

Some types of help don’t follow the amounts in Schedule 4. These include:

  • Emergency benefits
  • Help with childcare costs
  • Money for funerals
  • Extra help for a short time
  • Special help for unusual situations

Even when the help is supposed to follow the amounts in Schedule 4, there might be times when you get less money or no money at all. This can happen if the law says your help should be reduced, stopped for a while, or cancelled.
