Social Security Act 2018

Obligations - Beneficiaries’ obligations - Specific obligations: work-test obligations

143: Time when work-test obligation applies

You could also call this:

“When you must follow work rules if you get government help”

You need to know about when work-test obligations apply. These are rules you must follow when you’re getting certain types of help from the government.

The work-test obligations apply on weekdays, which means Monday to Friday. They might also apply on other days of the week if the government says so.

If you’re getting jobseeker support because of a health condition, injury, or disability, these obligations start from the date the government tells you that you can do part-time work.

For everyone else, these obligations start from the first day you get your benefit payment.

Remember, these rules are part of a law called the Social Security Act 2018. They help make sure that people who can work are trying to find jobs while they get government support.
