Social Security Act 2018

Assistance - Child disability allowance

82: Child disability allowance: payment

You could also call this:

“How the government pays money to help with a child who has a disability”

If a child disability allowance is granted, the government can pay it to the person who takes care of the child most of the time. This person is called the principal caregiver. Sometimes, there might be a temporary caregiver who is looking after the child for a short time. The government can pay the allowance to them too. If there’s no main caregiver or temporary caregiver, the government can give the money to whoever is looking after the child at that time.

The government office that handles these payments is called MSD. They decide who gets the money based on who is caring for the child. This helps make sure the money goes to the right person who is taking care of the child with a disability.
