Social Security Act 2018

Administration - Application, inquiry, and grant - Application

297: Application for benefit: making of, help with, lapse, and deemed receipt

You could also call this:

“How to apply for a benefit and what happens with your application”

You need to fill out an application form if you want to get a benefit. There are rules about how to complete the form, how you can get help with it, what happens if you don’t finish it, and when it’s considered to have been received. These rules are set out in other regulations.

If you applied for weekly compensation from ACC but didn’t get it, MSD might treat your benefit application as if you made it on a different date. This could be either when ACC decided not to give you the compensation, or when you stopped getting ACC payments, whichever is later.
