Social Security Act 2018

Assistance - Jobseeker support

20: Jobseeker support: requirements

You could also call this:

“Rules for getting help when you're looking for a job”

You can get jobseeker support if you meet certain requirements. These requirements are:

You need to have a gap in your work. This means you’re not currently working.

You need to be available to work. This means you’re ready and willing to take on a job.

You need to be old enough. There’s an age requirement you must meet.

You need to be living in New Zealand. This is called the residential requirement.

You need to have no money coming in, or very little money. This means you have no income or only a small amount of income.

If you meet all these requirements, you can get jobseeker support to help you while you’re looking for work.
