Social Security Act 2018

Assistance - Jobseeker support

28: Jobseeker support: on ground of health condition, injury, or disability: medical examination

You could also call this:

“MSD might ask you to see a doctor if you apply for jobseeker support because of health reasons”

If you apply for or receive jobseeker support because of a health condition, injury, or disability, MSD (Ministry of Social Development) might ask you to have a medical check-up. This check-up will be done by a health professional.

You and MSD will try to agree on which health professional will do the check-up. If you can’t agree, MSD will choose someone.

After the check-up, the health professional will write a report for MSD. This report will say:

  • If your health condition, injury, or disability affects your ability to work
  • How much it affects your ability to work
  • How long it might keep affecting your ability to work

MSD will get a copy of this report to help them understand your situation.
