Social Security Act 2018

Enforcement: sanctions and offences - Sanctions for breach of obligations other than young person or young parent obligations - Hierarchy of sanctions

237: Sanction for second failure: suspension of main benefit

You could also call this:

“Your main benefit payment stops if you don't follow the rules twice”

If you fail to meet certain requirements for a second time, the Ministry of Social Development (MSD) will suspend your main benefit. This means your benefit payments will stop until you do what is required of you.

This rule has some exceptions. These exceptions are explained in other parts of the law, specifically in sections 245 to 248 and 320 to 324.
