Social Security Act 2018

Administration - Review of entitlement to, or rate of, benefit granted

306: No entitlement, or entitlement only at different rate

You could also call this:

“Your benefit might change or stop if MSD finds you shouldn't have gotten it”

If MSD (Ministry of Social Development) reviews your benefit and finds that you weren’t or aren’t entitled to receive it, or that you should be getting a different amount, they can make changes. This might happen if you weren’t eligible for the benefit at all, or if you were eligible but for a different reason than what was originally thought.

If this happens, MSD can decide to stop your benefit, cancel it completely, or change how much you get. They can do this from a date they think is fair and reasonable.

Remember, MSD is the organisation that manages benefits in New Zealand. They can review your benefit at any time to make sure you’re getting the right amount and that you’re still eligible to receive it.

      1. MSD may suspend, cancel, or vary the rate of the benefit from a date MSD reasonably determines.
